Bostic's 21 Leads Women's Basketball Past Mount Ida, 62-52
Newton, Mass. – Freshman guard Nicole Bostic (North Easton, Mass.) poured in a game-high 21 points as the Framingham State University women's basketball team defeated Mount Ida 62-52 this evening on the road in non-conference women's basketball action.
The Rams were led by Bostic's 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Junior Madeleine Park (Blue Hills, ME) added 14 points in her second game as a Ram to go along with eight caroms while sophomore guard Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, MA) just missed a double double with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Mount Ida was led by 12 points apiece from senior guard Shannon Wood (Gorham, ME) and sophomore forward Amanda Bolio (Oxford, MA) with all of Bolio's 12 points coming off her eight offensive rebounds. Sophomore Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, CT) chipped in eight points and four assists.
After taking a 6-3 lead to start the contest, the Mustangs fell behind 8-6 just seven minutes into the game.
The Rams went up by five (14-9) after a quick run that was capped by a Hoffman lay-in with less than eight minutes to go in the first stanza.
Mount Ida would cut the visitors advantage down to a digit (16-15) with 6:35 remaining on a Wood jumper.
Through the next four minutes Framingham State built a seven point lead (23-16) after a sophomore guard Cassie Liston (Stoneham, MA) lay-up with 1:39 remaining before the break.
The Rams headed into the locker room with a half high eight point advantage with Bostic ending the stanza on a three point play the hard way with her squad up 26-18.
A 7-0 run to start the final frame inflated the visitor's lead to a game-high 15 points, 33-18, following Bostic's first of two three pointers with 19 minutes on the clock.
The double digit advantage for the Rams would last until the 12:46 mark with Mount Ida cutting the score down to eight points after a Wood three ball down 39-31.
The Mustangs would go on a 7-0 run capped on a Bolio jumper with eight minutes to go in the game to pull within two.
Framingham State would not relinquish the lead going back ahead by eight points (51-43) after a Park lay-in with 3:46 remaining.
Solid free throw shooting by the Rams would keep Mount Ida at bay for the rest of the game eventually solidifying the 62-52 victory for the Rams.
Both teams turned the ball over 13 times each and were even in the rebounding game throughout the contest. Poor offensive play by the Mustangs, who shot only 31 percent from the floor and 45 from the line, helped the Rams secure the victory.
Mount Ida drops their second straight falling to an overall record of 6-4 with their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid coming this weekend when they face Norwich University Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Northfield, Vermont. The Rams began MASCAC action on Saturday when they host Worcester State University at 3 p.m.
