Women's Basketball Suffers First Loss of the Season

Box Score

Quincy, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team sent their record over the .500 mark (4-3), for the first time since December 4, 2007, with a strong showing against a tough Framingham State team, handing them their first loss of the season (3-1) in a 49-44 victory.

Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, MD) led the Lions with a double-double, 10 points and 17 rebounds, hitting key shots and pulling in possessions for the Lions.

Trailing 21-18 coming out of the break, the Lions went on a 4-1 run to tie the game at 22-22 on a Malloy lay-up with 16:40 remaining in the game.  A three point play by Malloy put the Lions ahead 27-24.  It was the Lions first lead since late in the first half.

The game remained tight over the next ten minutes as the Lions slowly crept out to a ten point lead, 45-35, on Victoria Sontag's (Mont Vernon, NH) three point play as she was fouled driving to the basket and sank a tough shot in the lane.

The Rams answered with six straight points as Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) sank two shots and Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) completed a fast break lay-up to pull the Rams within four, 45-41, with 3:30 left in the game.

After a Lions timeout, Malloy answered the call again by knocking down a lay-up to give the Lions a six point lead.

Malloy and teammate Jessica Schoppee (Scarborough, ME) connected on free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach and the Lions went on to win, 49-44.

Schoppee led Eastern Nazarene in scoring with 13 points while collecting nine rebounds.  Tucker and Malloy had 10 points apiece as Tucker added seven assists and eight steals on the night.

Framingham State's Toya Chester (Leominster, Mass.) and Kia Minor led all scorers in the contest with 14 points apiece as Minor pulled in 11 rebounds for a double-double.  Emily Clark led the Rams on the boards with 12 rebounds to go with her six points.

Eastern Nazarene travels to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, December 5th in New Haven, Conn. for a 1 p.m. tip-off, while the Rams are off until Tuesday December 8th when they host Curry College at 6 p.m.
