Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season with Loss at Westfield State

Box Score

Westfield, Mass. - Freshman guard Briana Kelly (Hampden, Mass.) scored a career-high 18 points and senior Sarah Boudreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored 17 to lead Westfield State to a 66-53 MASCAC victory over Framingham State on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's basketball action.

The Rams finish the regular season 10-12 overall and 4-8 in the MASCAC, while the Owls improve to 9-15 overall and 3-8 in conference and conclude their regular season on Saturday against Fitchburg State.

The Owls bolted to a fast start during the Senior Night game as their stifling defense held the Rams without a field goal in the opening 14 minutes.

Westfield led 15-1 midway through the first half as Framingham State missed its first 14 shots from the field. Sophomore forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) hit a jumper with 5:46 remaining in the first half for the Rams' first field goal.

The Owls' biggest first-half advantage was 22-7 but the Rams regrouped to trail at halftime, 28-20.

With Kelly and Boudreau hitting their perimeter shots, Westfield took its biggest lead of 21 points, 50-29, with 10:19 remaining in the game.

Kelly and Boudreau also were ball hawks on defense with three and four steals, respectively. Junior forward Ashley Finnegan (Worcester, Mass.) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Westfield senior reserve forward Molly Brogan (Mendon, Mass.) continued her relentless rebounding with a game-high nine boards.

The Owls shot 43 percent from the field, including 6-for-16 from beyond the arc, and were 14-for-19 from the foul line.

Freshman forward Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) led the Rams with 16 points and seven rebounds. Clark tallied 14 points, hitting some nice turnaround jumpers in the lane.
