Fitchburg State Downs Women's Basketball, 74-44

Framingham, MA - Sophomore guard Kelley Rogers (Lowell, MA) scored a game-high 20 points as the Fitchburg State College women's basketball team cruised to a 77-44 conference win on the road this afternoon over the Framingham State Rams.  With the win the Falcons improve to 12-7 on the season and 5-2 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action, while the Rams fall to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the MASCAC.

In the first half Fitchburg State's offense was firing on all cylinders as they connected on 8-of-13 from behind the arc (61.5%) and shot 50% from the floor, while the Rams only shot 31% from the field and were only 1-of-7 from three point range.

Fitchburg State used a 20-6 run over the first seven minutes of the game to open up a lead that they would not give up for the rest of the game.  Rogers, who connected on 4-of-5 from behind the arc in the first half, led the Falcons on the run as she connected on 3-of-3 from behind the arc for nine points over that stretch.  Rogers finished the game 7-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-10 from behind the arc.

Sophomore forward Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, MA) finished the game with 15 points on 5-of-7 from the field to go along with six rebounds and three steals.  Junior Kari Averill (Barre, VT) and freshman forward Rebecca Goreham (Quincy, MA) added eight points apiece for the Falcons.

Framingham State was led by senior guard Allie Hart (Somerset, MA) who finished with a team-high 17 points, six rebounds and three steals.  Junior Toya Chester (Leominster, MA) chipped in eight points and seven boards, while sophomore Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) added seven points and five steals. 

The Rams return to action on Thursday night as they travel to Bridgewater State at 5:30 p.m. while the Falcons travel to Rhode Island College at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
