Women's Basketball Falls to Curry

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College women's basketball team dropped their home opener and slipped to 1-3 on the season today with a 68-52 loss to the Colonels of Curry College at Framingham State's Athletic & Recreation Center.  The Colonels improve to 1-4 on the season with the victory.

The Colonels inside presence was just too much for the Rams as freshman forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) and junior forward Christina Sancinito (Wakefield, MA) each had double doubles and led the Colonels in the paint where they outscored the Rams 30-22 on the day.  Robinson led all scorers with a game-high 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the floor and 10 rebounds, while Sancinito added 11 points and game-high 15 boards, including 10 in the first half.

Despite committing 13 first half turnovers, the Rams were able to stay within striking distance, down one at the half, and were able to take the lead by one with 15:21 left in the second half on free throw by Nicole McConaghy (Medford, MA).  The Colonels used a 17-5 run over the next five minutes to open up a comfortable 11 point lead, 51-40.  The Rams were able to cut the lead to single digits on several occasions but the Colonels continued to pound the ball inside and regain the double digit lead.

Senior center Christina Bordini (Chelmsford, MA) picked up her third double double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Freshman Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) added 12 points and seven boards, while sophomore Toya Chester chipped in 10 boards.

The Rams return to action next Thursday as they host Babson College at 5:30 p.m., while the Colonels return to action on Tuesday as they host Suffolk University at 7 p.m.
