Softball to Face Husson in the Opening Round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The 2024 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's (MASCAC) tournament champion Framingham State Rams will be making their seventh overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament this week in the regional hosted by Husson University.  The Rams will face the host Eagles in the opening round.   

Framingham State finished the 2024 season 24-18 overall and 11-3 in MASCAC action.  After earning the second seed in the 2024 MASCAC Softball Tournament, the Rams led by Tournament MVP Gwendolyn Carpenter came out of the loser's bracket to defeat top seed Westfield State twice in the championship round to earn the MASCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  

  The Rams were led offensively this season by the duo of Carpenter who batted .414 with 41 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 30 RBI and Kelsey McGuill who batted .389 with 34 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple, 10 homeruns, including a three run homer that ended clinched the championship for the Rams, and 42 RBI.   

The Rams were led in the circle by the tandem of seniors Ally Moran and Caroline Hughes. Moran went 13-8 in the circle pitching 151 innings with an ERA of 2.73, while Hughes went 11-10 including capturing the victory in the final game of the MASCAC Tournament. Hughes tosses 128 innings on the year with an ERA of 2.56. 

Husson who is currently ranked 20th in the country defeated SUNY Poly this past weekend to win the North Atlantic Conference Title. The Eagles enter the NCAA Tournament having won 30 straight games and have an overall record of 35-4.  

This will be the first meeting all-time between Framingham State and Husson.  

Husson will be hosting the four team regional over the weekend with Williams and Rensselaer meeting in the other first round game. The double elimination regional competition will take place May 16-18 in Bangor, ME.
