Softball Takes Two from Mass. Maritime – Miller Records 200th Career Victory

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team defeated Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 9-1 and 11-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon at Maple Street Field.  Head Coach Larry Miller recorded his 200th and 201stcareer coaching victories with the sweep. Miller became the program's all-time winningest coach earlier this season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham St. 9, MMA 1 (5 Innings) 

  • In the opener, the Bucs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Rams answered with an RBI double from Kelsey McGuill tying the game in the bottom of the inning. 

  • The Rams took the lead for good in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly from Shelby Roode. 

  • The Rams used a home run from Gwendolyn Carpenter and a two run homer from McGuill in the third to push the lead to 5-1. 

  • The Rams added two more in the fourth on RBI hits from Roode and Makayla Rooney and two more in the fifth on a two run double from Roode to record the run rule victory. 

  • Roode finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI, while McGuill finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, homer, two runs scored and three RBI. Carpenter added two hits and an RBI in the game. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle going five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.  

Game 2: Framingham State 11, Mass. Maritime 1 (5 Innings) 

  • In game two, the Rams erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first. McGuill walked with the bases loaded and Marina Cadena added an RBI single. Roode chipped in a sacrifice fly and Talia Duca singled home the final run. 

  • The Rams added two more in the third on an RBI triple from Roode and an RBI ground out from Duca. 

  • Four runs in the bottom of the fourth pushed the lead to 11-0 and Mass. Maritime added a single run in the top of the fifth to reach the final margin. 

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle going five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Roode finished game two 2-for-2 with a double, triple, run scored and three RBI, while Duca went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. 

  • Carpenter finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Brooke Grassia added a triple and pair of RBI.
