Softball Picks Up Pair of Five Inning Victories over MCLA

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team belted four home runs as the Rams swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon by a scores of 12-1 and 19-3 both in five innings over MCLA at Maple Street Field.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 12, MCLA 1 (5 Innings) 
Framingham State 19, MCLA 3 (5 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (8-8, 3-1 MASCAC), MCLA (6-13, 0-4 MASCAC) 

- Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham St. 12, MCLA 1 

  • In the opener, the Rams plated 11 runs in their first at bat of the day and cruised to the run rule victory. 

  • Gwendolyn Carpenter went 3-for-4 in the game with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while Brooke Grassia finished the opener 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI. 

  • Victoria Connelly went 1-for-3 in the game with a home run, while Eliza Carignan went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Talia Duca added three hits in the game including a double. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory, tossing three shutout innings allowing just one hit, while Carignan tossed two innings of relief allowing one run on four hits. 

Game 2: Framingham State 19, MCLA 3 (5 Innings) 

  • In game two, the Rams once again jumped out to a big lead with eight runs in the top of the first inning including a two run homer from Carpenter. 

  • The Rams added six more in the third including a two run double for Duca. Kelsey McGuill added a two run home run in the fourth and Carignan added a solo home run in the fifth. 

  • Carpenter finished game two 2-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, while McGuill finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBI. 

  • Duca went 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Carignan, Roode and Grassia drove in two runs apiece. Grassia finished with three hits in the game including a triple. 

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle going five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Rams are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Babson for a pair of non-conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
