Softball Swept by Worcester State in MASCAC Doubleheader

Worcester, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team was defeated twice today by Worcester State University by scores of 4-3 and 4-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Rockwood Field.   

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Worcester State 4, Framingham State 3 – Worcester State 4, Framingham State 1 

- Records: Framingham State (15-15, 7-3 MASCAC), Worcester State (16-16, 9-1 MASCAC) 

- Location: Worcester, Mass. - Rockwood Field 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

Game 1: Framingham State  

  • In the opener, the Lancers got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. 

  • The Rams knotted the score with two in the top of fourth. Gwendolyn Carpenter launched a solo home run for her fifth of the season which ties the FSU single season homerun record. Ally Gruca followed with an RBI double. 

  • The Rams took the lead in the top of the fifth when Carpenter tripled, scoring Camille Desrochers who had walked earlier in the inning. 

  •  The Lancers tied the game on an Emma Lanpher RBI double in the bottom of the seventh forcing extra innings. 

  • After retiring the Rams in the top of the eighth, the Lancers secured the victory in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double to center from Rachel Sinclair. 

  • Sinclair finished the game with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI for the Lancers, while Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI for the Rams. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle tossing a complete game allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts. 

 

Game 2: Worcester State 4, Framingham State 1 

  • In game two, the Lancers once again got on the board first pushing across four runs in the third inning on two run doubles from Ally Tocman and Abigail Koziol. 

  • The Rams plated their only run of the contest in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Kelsey McGuill. 

  • Tocman finished the game with a pair of hits for the Lancers, while Brooke Grassia went 2-for-3 for the Rams. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle for the Rams going six innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks. 

  • Molly Glynn earned the win for the Lancers going five and a third allowing one earned run on six hits with a walk.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Salem State for a pair of MASCAC games at 2 p.m.
