Moran Tosses No Hitter in Game 1 as Softball Splits with Bridgewater State

Game 1: Framingham State 4, Bridgewater State 0 

• In the opener, Moran tossed a no hitter propelling the Rams to the victory. Moran retired 21 of the 24 batters she faced, gave up just a pair of walks and struck out eight. One BSU hitter reached on an error. Moran set down the first 12 hitters before issuing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

• The Rams pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth to break open a scoreless game. Framingham had just one hit in the frame but capitalized on a pair of walks and two key BSU miscues. 

•  A two-run homer over the centerfield fence by junior left fielder Gwendolyn Carpenter in the top of the sixth extended the FSU lead to 4-0. 

• Freshman designated player Shelby Roode was the only batter to record multiple hits in game one as she went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Carpenter (1-3) added a walk to her two-run homer. 

• Graduate centerfielder Alexandra Ruprecht was the only Bear to reach safely as she walked twice in three plate appearances. 

• Sophomore righty Madelyn Klingel was saddled with the loss in the circle for Bridgewater State. Klingel (2-2) allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. 

Game 2: Bridgewater State 10, Framingham State 2 (6 Innings) 

• In game two, the Rams opened the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Junior centerfielder Grace Swanson singled with one out, advanced to third when Carpenter reached on a dropped pop up and raced home on a wild pitch. 

•  The Bears, who scored at least one run in every inning, answered with a pair of tallies in the home half of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Back-to-back base hits by Emily Marcotte and Emma Healy to lead off the frame put runners at second and third with nobody out. Megan Sharon followed with an RBI single up the middle scoring Marcotte with Healy also crossing the plate on outfield error. 

• Ruprecht connected for a two-run single in the second, while the Rams answered in the top of the third with an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Kelsey McGuill to make it a 4-2 game. 

•  The Bears tacked on two runs in the third on an RBI infield single by Marcotte and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Healy.  

• In the fourth, Sharon walked and raced home when Amelia Blake reached on an error. Jolly singled to lead off the fifth, advanced to second on a wild pitch, to third on a fly out and scored on Healy's RBI single to extend the BSU lead to 8-2. 

• The Bears ended the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the sixth with their final two runs of the game.   

• Kelley Reichert went the distance in the circle for the Bears to record her team-leading seventh win of the season. Reichert gave up two runs (one earned) on nine hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. 

• Caroline Hughes allowed four runs on seven hits over 1 2/3 innings with one walk and one strikeout in the setback for the Rams. 

• Brooke Grassia went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams' nine-hit attack in the nightcap.
