Gunarathne & Caughey Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors

Framingham, Mass.- Senior pitcher Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) and sophomore Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.) have been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending April 14th.

Gunarathne went 4-0 with a 1.27 ERA over 22 innings of work, allowing four earned runs and striking out 13 in a 6-0 week for the Rams. She earned both wins in a sweep of Salem State, throwing nine innings allowing one earned run and striking out seven. Earned the win in a 5-4 win over Simmons College, allowing three earned in seven innings. Then picked up the win going the distance in the 9-1 game one win over Worcester State, allowing one unearned run on four hits and striking out three. 

Caughey batted .500 (10-for-20) with five doubles, eight runs scored, 16 RBI and a .750 slugging percentage in a 6-0 week for the Rams. She went 6-for-8 with four doubles and nine RBI in the doubleheader sweep of Salem State. Picked up two hits, two RBI and a run scored in a 6-4 win over Simmons College. Finished the week 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored in the 9-1 win over Worcester State.
