Caughey and Gunarathne Earn MASCAC Weekly Softball Honors

Framingham, Mass. – Freshman infielder/pitcher Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.) has been selected the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player and Rookie of the Week, while junior Kelsi Gunarathne (Providence, RI) has been selected the MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 22nd.        

Caughey earns her first player of the week nod and her second rookie of the week honor after batting .600 (12-20) with five doubles, eight runs scored and 10 RBI with a .850 slugging percentage and .619 on-base percentage in a 5-1 week for the Rams.  Caughey went four-for-six with three runs scored, two doubles and two RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  She went four-for-five with a double, four runs scored and four RBI in a sweep of Roger Williams. She also recorded four hits with two doubles, a run scored and four RBI in split with Bridgewater State. Caughey also went 2-0 in the circle for the week recording victories against Mass. Maritime and Roger Williams.

Gunarathne earns her fourth pitcher of the week honor this season after going 3-1 on the week with a 1.62 ERA in 17.1 innings of work. She recorded 26 strikeouts and allowed just nine hits and seven walks on the week.  Gunarathne threw three shutout innings, allowing just one hit with six strikeouts and two walks in an 11-3 victory over Massachusetts Maritime.  She earned the victory in game one against Roger Williams going four innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts. Gunarathne closed the week tossing a complete game shutout against Bridgewater State in game one allowing just two hits with eight strikeouts.
