Gunarathne & Marchant Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) and junior outfielder Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) have been recognized with selection to the 2017 National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England Teams.  Gunarathne is a second team selection, while Marchant is a third team selection.      

Gunarathne was previously recognized as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Pitcher of the Year as well as a first team all-conference selection after an outstanding sophomore season.   Gunarathne went 17-7 on the season establishing a new school record for wins in a season.  She led the MASCAC with a 1.56 ERA with 144 strikeouts in 166 innings of work. She recorded 21 complete games with a MASCAC-best seven shutouts.

Marchant, who was also a first team All-MASCAC selection, established a new FSU record for hits in a season with 62 during her junior campaign.  Marchant hit .422 with two doubles, five triples, nine RBI and 39 runs scored, while stealing 14 bases.

The 2017 Rams led by Gunarathne and Marchant won a school record 31 games and captured both the MASCAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles while making the program's second appearance in the NCAA Softball Tournament.
