Gunarathne & Moody Earn MASCAC Softball Weekly Honors

Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player and Pitcher of the Week and freshman outfielder Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) has been named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week after the Rams won the MASCAC Softball Tournament this weekend.      

Gunarathne earned MASCAC Tournament MVP honors after going 3-0 last week with three complete games, a 1.00 ERA. Gunarathne allowed just three earned runs on 15 hits with 14 strikeouts in leading the Rams to the Tournament Title.  Gunarathne threw a complete game one hit shutout with four strikeouts in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Salem State.  She completed the week with a complete game effort in the 5-4 championship game victory over Westfield State.  She allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits with seven strikeouts.

Moody earns her fifth rookie of the week honor this season after batting .231 with four walks, three runs scored and a stolen base as the Rams captured the MASCAC Title.  She went 1-for-3 with a single and scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Rams defeated Westfield State 5-4 in the championship game.
