Softball Takes a Pair from Mass. Maritime

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State softball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon with Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Maple Street Field.  The Rams took the opener 9-1 before securing an 11-1 victory in game two.

With the win, the Rams improve to 12-22 on the year and 4-6 in the conference, while the Buccaneers slip to 3-19 overall and 0-10 in the MASCAC.

Junior Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) paced the Rams in the opener going 2-for-3 at the plate including a two run homer with two runs scored and three RBI.  Classmate Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored, while sophomore Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a pair of runs scored.

The Buccaneers were paced by a 2-for-3 performance at the plate by freshman Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass.). Goodwin drove in the Bucs run in the game in the fourth inning.  Haley Delahanty (Holden, Mass.) picked up a hit for the visitors in the opener.

Senior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) earned the win in the opener going six innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.  Carli Thomas (Brewster, Mass.) took the loss going the distance allowing nine runs, five earned on seven hits.

Sophomore Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) led the Rams in the circle and at the plate in game two.  Pietersen went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.  In the circle Pietersen went five innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits with seven strikeouts.

Sophomore Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs, while Marsh picked up a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

Rachel Gardner (Bourne, Mass.) went 2-for-2 in game two for the visitors, while Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The Rams resume MASCAC action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Salem State for a doubleheader at 2 p.m., while the Buccaneers travel to Bridgewater State on Tuesday for a pair of MASCAC games beginning at 2 p.m.
