Softball Rallies for Game One Victory in Split with Roger Williams

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State softball team plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth of game one as they came from behind for an 8-3 win over Roger Williams University in game one of a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Maple Street Field.  The Hawks won game two 7-0.

With the split, the Rams are now 10-22 on the year, while the Hawks are now 17-15.

In the opener, the Rams plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 3-3 game and secure the victory.  Freshman Rachel Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) gave the Rams their first lead of the day scoring the go ahead run on a wild pitch.  Junior Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) followed with an RBI double and sophomore Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) plated the third run of the inning on a single to right.  Sophomore Bridget McGrail (Worcester, Mass.) drove in the final two runs of the game with a two RBI sinlge.

The Hawks had grabbed the early lead with single runs in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) and third on base hit to center by Ledbetter.

The Rams cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI ground out by Marsh.  The Hawks pushed the lead back to two runs in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.).

The Rams scored two in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.  Junior Kylie Boyle (Billerica, Mass.) drove in freshman Lauren Salisbury (Cranston, R.I.) with a single.  The Rams loaded the bases and junior Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) reached on an error driving in the tying run.

Senior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) earned the win going seven innings allowing three runs, all earned, on nine hits with a walk and three strikeouts.  Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, NY) took the loss going two innings in relief and allowing an unearned run.

The Hawks rebounded for a convincing victory in game two with Mikaela Grosso driving in five runs including a huge grand slam down the left field line in the top of the fifth that extended their lead to 6-0.

Juliet Hulme improved her season record to 5-0 as she earned the win in game two in the circle. Hulme went the distance scattering six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.  Marsh took the loss for the Rams going four and a third and surrendering six earned runs on seven hits with three walkes.

The Rams resume MASCAC action on Saturday afternoon when the host Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a doubleheader at 1 p.m., while the Hawks travel to Endicott on Saturday for a CCC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
