Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State softball team received six hits from sophomore Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) as the Rams split a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon with Mount Ida at Maple Street Field.  The Rams took the opener 9-3, before the Mustangs rallied for a 7-6 victory in game two.

With the split, the Rams improve to 8-16 on the year, while the Mustangs move to 6-12.

The Rams took the lead in the opener on their first at bat of the day on a pair of RBI singles from sophomore Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) and junior Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.).  The Rams tacked on a single run in the bottom of the second on an RBI base hit from junior Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) extending the lead to 3-0.

Sophomore Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) added an RBI single and Dziok added a two RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead to 6-0, but the Mustangs got a three back in the top of fifth.   A double from Kristina Stella (Revere, Mass.)  with no outs got the inning going, but the Rams quickly recorded a pair of outs.  Freshman Jenni Jackson (Marlboro, Mass.) delivered with a two out, two RBI single and Hayley Microulis (Pawtucket, RI) followed with an RBI single cutting the lead for the Rams to 6-3.

The Rams added a pair of runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to reach the final differential.

Senior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) earned the victory going five innings and allowing three runs, all unearned, on five hits with two strikeouts, while freshman Amanda Troiano (Seekonk, Mass.) tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

The Mustangs took the lead in the top of the first of game two with three runs in the opening frame.  Microulis singled to plate the first run and the second came home on a throwing error on a stolen base attempt.  Sophomore Sam Laferriere (Tewksbury, Mass.) drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

The lead did not last long as the Rams tied the game in the bottom of the inning.  Dziok doubled down the left field line to score the first run and Flynn followed with a two run double knotting the score.

The Rams took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI double to center by Marsh. The Mustangs responed with three runs in the top of the 3rd to take the lead for good.  The visitors loaded the bases with no outs and Kelsey Weston (Hamstead, NH) tied the game on a bloop single and Laferriere and Stella followed with sacrifice flies for the 6-4 lead. A bases loaded walk to Weston in the top of the fourth extended the lead to 7-4. The Rams plated single runs in the fifth and sixth to pull within one, but that was as close as they would get.

The Rams are back in Thursday afternoon when they travel to Nichols College for a pair of non-conference games beginning at 3 p.m., while the Mustangs host Suffolk on Friday for a pair of conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
