Johnson and Wales Secures a Pair of Run Rule Wins over Softball

Framingham, Mass. – The Johnson and Wales University softball team earned a pair run rule shortened victories this afternoon over the Framingham State Rams by scores 8-0 and 20-7 in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.     

With the wins, the Wildcats are now 12-3 on the year, while the Rams slip to 5-11

In the opener, the Wildcats tallied four runs with two outs in the top of the first inning.  Junior Emily Schaper plated the first run with a double to deep center and Diana Amendolara followed with a blooper to right that scored a pair of runs.  Angelica Reyes capped the scoring in the frame with an RBI ground rule double to center.

The Wildcats extended the lead to 5-0 in the second when Brenna DuPerry reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the fifth, Taylor Fay came home with their sixth run as she scored from second on a ground out.  The Wildcats closed the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to reach the eight run rule.

Jennifer Corona earned the win in the circle for the Wildcats going six innings and scattering seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.  Freshman Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) took the loss allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks.

In game two, the Wildcats exploded for nine first inning runs and never looked back.  The Rams received two RBI apiece from sophomore Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) and classmate Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) in the night cap.  Junior Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) and Gunarathne recorded two hits apiece in the setback.

The Rams are back in action Saturday when they open conference action with a doubleheader at home against Fitchburg State at 1 p.m., while the Wildcats travel to Mount Ida for a twinbill on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
