Softball Splits a Pair with UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team took the opener of a non-conference doubleheader 8-5 against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth before falling 6-5 in a darkness shortened second game of the twin bill.

With the split the Rams are now 5-9 on the season, while the Corsairs move to 13-4.

In the openers, the Rams plated four runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game.  Freshman Lauren Salisbury cleared the based with a three run triple to right field and sophomore Dayna Marchant followed reaching on an error that allowed Salisbury to cross the plate with an unearned run.

Salisbury finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored, while junior Tiffanie Marsh and sophomore Megan Downing also picked up a pair of hits apiece with Downing recording a pair of doubles.

Freshman Kelsi Gunarathne earned the win in game one going 6.1 innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

In the darkness shortened nightcap, the Corsairs tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the come from behind victory.

Salisbury once again led the Rams at the plate going 2-for-3 including a double with three RBI while Downing and sophomore Anna Dziok each picked up two hits.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday afternoon when they host Johnson & Wales in a non-conference twin bill beginning at 3 p.m.
