Softball Opens Day Two with 4-2 Win Over Trinity Before Falling to RPI

Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team broke into the win column this morning with a 4-2 victory over Trinity College in their first game of the day at the NTC Games.  The Rams closed the day with a 9-1 five inning loss to RPI.

The Rams plated three runs in the bottom of the second against Trinity to take a lead they would not relinquish.   The Rams capitalized on five walks in the inning including a bases loaded walk to Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) that plated the first run of the game.  Sophomore Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) followed with a two run single giving the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

The Rams added a final run in the bottom of the fifth when junior Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a single.

Freshman Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) earned her first collegiate win in the circle going the distance and holding the Bantams off the scoreboard until their final at bat of the game.  Gunarathne went seven innings allowing two runs, both unearned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Rams dropped their second game of the day 9-1 in five innings to Rensselaer.  Sarah Harms went the distance for RPI allowing one earned run on four hits with a strikeout and two walks.

Freshman Catherine Nestor (Chelmsford, Mass.) accounted for the Rams lone run when she stole home in the second inning.

The Rams (1-3) are back in action tomorrow with a pair of games as they face Amherst at 9 a.m. and Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
