Softball Swept at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – The Framingham State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on the road at Westfield State by scores of 5-3 and 6-2 on Saturday. 

Westfield State improves to 6-7, 2-1 in the MASCAC with the wins, while Framingham falls to 8-14, and 2-4 in the MASCAC.

In game 1, Framingham jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning, scoring a pair of runs on a triple by Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.), and Marchant came home to score on an RBI single by Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass).

Westfield got one back in the third on an RBI double from Kelsey Carpenter.

The Owls took the lead with a four-run fourth inning, tying the game at 3-3 on an RBI base hit from Erica Gouin, then Jamie Ricciadi delivered a 2-run single to center to give the Owls a 5-3 lead. 

Emily Mailloux allowed six hits a three runs over seven innings while striking out five to earn the win for the Owls. Gouin finished 3-3 at the plate to lead Owl hitters.

Natasha Arseanau (Waltham, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams.

In the second game, Westfield struck for three runs in the third and three more in the fourth.  Carpenter was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Gouin finished 2-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher Julia Sullivan held the rams scoreless through six innings and yielded just three hits while fanning six on the day in picking up her third win of the season.

Danielle Belliveau (Lakeville, Mass.) and Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) each drove in runs in the seventh inning for the Rams who rallied to bring the tying run to the plate in the final frame.

Marsh (5-7) started in the circle and was charged with all six runs for the Rams.

Westfield travels to Bridgewater to play a single game on Sunday. Rams return to action on Tuesday, April 14th when they host Salem State at Maple Street Field.
