Softball Ends Southern Swing with a Pair of Losses

Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team closed their spring training trip this morning with a pair of losses, falling 7-1 to Hamilton College and 8-0 to Lawrence University in five innings at the NTC Games. 

The Rams (1-9) surrendered three unearned in the bottom of the second against Hamilton to fall behind 3-0. Hamilton extended the lead to 6-0 on a three run homerun from junior Olivia Gozdz in the bottom of the fourth inning and tacked on another unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.

Freshman Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) broke up the combined no hitter being tossed by Kelly Leonard and Monique St. Jarre with a single to center off St. Jarre in the top of the seventh inning.  After an out, sophomore Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) blooped a singled to left and freshman Bridget McGrail (Worcester, Mass.) singled up the middle to load the bases for the Rams. Sophomore Kylie Boyle (Billerica, Mass.) plated the Rams lone run with a sacrifice fly to left.

Junior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) incurred the loss in the circle for the Rams going two innings and allowing three runs, all unearned, on four hits with a walk.

In their final game of the week, the Rams were defeated by Lawrence 8-0 in five innings as they allowed three runs in the first and four in the second.  Lawrence tallied their eighth run in the bottom of the fourth. 

The Rams received single hits in the game from freshman Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Marsh, Boyle and freshman Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.).

Marsh took the loss in the circle going an inning and a third, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits with no walks.

The Rams return north and are back in action on Thursday against Lesley University for a non-conference doubleheader.
