Softball Opens Season with a Pair of Losses to Wisconsin-Stout and Wesleyan

Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team opened the 2015 season this evening at the NTC Games and suffered a pair of losses to the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Wesleyan University.

The Rams (0-2) were defeated 8-0 in six innings by the Blue Devils (4-3) in their season opener, before falling to Wesleyan (3-5) 18-4.

In the opener, Stout took the lead in the bottom of the third.  Liz Seipel bunted for a single, advanced on a wild pitch and move to third on a ground out.  Seipel came around to score on an RBI basehit to center by Lynzi Knudston. 

The Blue Devils broke open the game with five runs in the fifth including three runs on an RBI double and error by Taylor Workman.  They added two more in the sixth on an error in the Rams outfield to reach the eight run differential.

The Rams received single hits in the game from sophomore Kylie Boyle (Billerica, Mass.) and the first collegiate hit off the bat of freshman Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.).

Junior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) suffered the loss for the Rams in her first collegiate start going four and two thirds allowing six runs, one earned, on eight hits with no walks.

In the night cap, the Rams struck first in the bottom of the first inning.  Freshman Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) singled to center and scored when sophomore Tiffanie Marsh's (Tewksbury, Mass.) ground ball to short rolled all the way to the fence allowing Dziok to score from first.  Boyle followed with a blast to center scoring Marsh giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. 

Wesleyan answered in the top of the second three runs to claim their first lead of the day. The Rams knotted the game in the third when Downing doubled to deep left center scoring Marsh, who singled to right earlier in the inning.

Wes added four in the fourth to take a 7-3 advantage as they capitalized on three Framingham errors.  The Rams added single run in the fifth on an RBI single from Marsh that scored freshman Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.), who had singled to left to lead off the inning.

Wesleyan closed the scoring with four runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh as they took advantage of 10 Framingham errors to score eight unearned runs.

Marsh was tagged with the loss in the game going five and a third allowing 11 runs, seven earned, on nine hits with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The Rams are back in action at the NTC Games tomorrow when they face Washington & Jefferson and Amherst at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
