Framingham, Mass.  – The Framingham State University softball team held off a seventh inning rally by Westfield State in the first game and scored a run in the bottom of the seventh of game two to walk off with the victory as the Rams swept the Owls by scores of 8-6 and 3-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Farley Field.

With the wins, the Rams improve to 12-16 on the year and 5-5 in the MASCAC, while the Owls fall to 9-13 overall and slip to 2-6 in conference play.

The Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of the opener.  Freshman Tiffanie Marsh (Tewksbury, Mass.) and senior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) led off with back-to-back singles.  After an out and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners, Marsh scampered home from third on a wild pitch.

Marsh led off the bottom of the third with a bomb to left that scraped the fence for the leadoff triple.  She would score the Rams second run of the day on an RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.).

The Rams extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Marsh led off the inning with a walk and stole second.  Marsh moved to third on a wild pitch and a Shelby Phillips (Taunton, Mass.) walk gave the Rams runners on the corners.  Phillips stole second and when the throw sailed into the outfield Marsh came in to score.  Falzone walked and after an out Danielle Belliveau (Lakeville, Mass.) hit a three run blast to left center extending the lead to 6-0.

The Owls countered with five in the top of the sixth as they took advantage of a pair of Framingham errors to start the inning.  Kelsey Carpenter (Barre, Mass.) and Breanne Bisceglia (Worcester, Mass.) reached on errors and Julia Sullivan (West Barnstable, Mass.) reached on a bunt single to load the bases.  Elizabeth Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) followed with a bases clearing double to left center cutting the deficit to 6-3.  Emma Dunbar (Weymouth, Mass.) followed with an RBI single and pinch hitter Jamie Ricciardi (Tewksbury, Mass.) drove in a run another with a base hit to right.

The Rams came right back with two in the bottom of the frame to extend their lead back to three (8-5).  Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) walked and after an out Begin singled to left.  Phillips followed with a single through the left side driving in two.

Westfield State threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases but they were only able to score one on an RBI single by Emma Dunbar before Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) induced a game ending groundout.

Smith earned the victory in the circle going the distance for the Rams allowing six runs, three earned, on 11 hits with five strikeouts and a walk.  Sullivan was tagged with the loss for the Owls tossing five innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Rams grabbed the early lead in game two.  Belliveau doubled down the leftfield line to lead off the bottom of the second and moved to third on a sacrifice with two outs.  Allie Morrissey (Barre, Mass.) walked to put runners on the corners.  Morrissey stole second and Belliveau came in to score when the throw down deflected off Morrissey's helmet and into the outfield.

Westfield got the run back in the top of third when Molly Dunbar (Weymouth, Mass.) led off the inning with a bloop double to left and moved to third on a ground out.  Amanda Flower (Reading, Mass.) bunted Dunbar home knotting the score at 1-1.

The Rams took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth.  Kourtney Kacian (Gardner, Mass.) led off the inning with a pinch hit single to center and advanced on a sacrifice and a ground out.  Begin brought Kacian home with a two out single up the middle.

Westfield State answered with a run in the top of the sixth as Sullivan doubled and scored on an RBI single to right by Kelly.

The Rams walked off with the victory in the bottom of the seventh.  Casey Fanning (East Boston, Mass.) singled to lead off the inning and was lifted for a pinch runner, Emily Kattau (Gardner, Mass.).  Kattau advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a ground out.  Flynn came through for the Rams with a hard groundball to short that was misplayed allowing Kattau to score the game winning run.

Sophomore Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) earned the victory in game two going the distance and allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk.  Kelley Fluet (Worcester, Mass.) went the distance for the Owls allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Both teams are back in action on Monday with conference doubleheaders.  The Rams travel to Worcester State to take on the Lancers at 12 p.m., while the Owls host Salem State at 12 p.m.
