Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Pine Manor College.  The Rams took both games in five innings by scores of 18-2 and 16-4.

Framingham State improves to 7-11 on the season after the pair of victories, while Pine Manor drops to 0-2 as today's games were the first of their season.

Game One: Framingham State 18, Pine Manor 2 (5 innings)

The Rams scored in each of the first three innings of game one, setting the tone for what would be a big day. Framingham State scored four runs in the top of the first and added three runs in both the second and third innings to take 10-0 lead.

Every Framingham St. player in the batting order recorded at least one hit in game one, led by junior Shelby Phillips' (Taunton, Mass.) three hits and five RBI and freshman Danielle Belliveau's (Lakeville, Mass.) two hits and four RBI. Phillips hit a two-run home run in the second, while Belliveau drove in all three Framingham runs in the third inning with a blast over the centerfield fence, her first collegiate homer.

Freshman Tiffanie Marsh (Shrewsbury, Mass.), sophomore Kourtney Kacian (Gardner, Mass.) and senior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) each recorded two hits in the opener for the Rams with Begin driving in a pair of runs and sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) plating three on one hit in the game.

Framingham State's Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) pitched all five innings for the victory. While Pine Manor freshman Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.) also pitched five innings in the loss.

Pine Manor broke the shout out in the third inning when sophomore Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) walked following a triple from freshman Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) to give the Gators runners on the corners. Lynch then broke for second, stealing the base and drawing a throw that allowed Vaughan to score from third on the double steal. With Lynch standing on second, Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.) singled to right field to plate Lynch.

Both teams would go quietly in the fourth inning before the Rams truly put the contest out of reach scoring eight runs on four hits and four Pine Manor errors in the top of the fifth to take the 18-2 victory.

Game Two: Framingham State 16, Pine Manor 4 (5 innings)

In game two, the Rams jumped all over Pine Manor starter Mutsumi Ogiso-- scoring nine runs on five hits and two Pine Manor errors in the top of the first inning. Ogiso was replaced by senior Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, R.I.) before the end of the inning. Kirylo pitched the remainder of the contest in relief scattering seven runs over 4.1 innings.

Phillips was again the story for the Rams, collecting three more hits and four RBI. With the Rams leading 10-0 in the third inning, Phillips hit her second home run of the day over the left centerfield fence, driving in three runs, to make the score 13-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the Gators got on the board when Rose hit an opposite field three-run home run. Rose would finish the day with five RBI on three hits for the Gators as she would drive in another run with a double in the bottom of the fifth. However, her four RBI effort in game two wasn't enough as the Rams secured the 16-4 victory.

The Rams will take on MASCAC rival Fitchburg State tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.in Fitchburg. The Gators will look to secure their first victory of the season tomorrow night when they travel to Lynn to take on Fisher College in doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.
