Softball Drops Two at Emmanuel

Boston, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team was back in action this evening and suffered a pair of losses against Emmanuel College in a non-conference doubleheader.  The Saints won the opener 5-0 before taking the night cap 7-0.

With the pair of victories, the Saints improve to 9-10 on the year, while Rams fall to 4-10 with the losses.

In the opener, sophomore Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) tossed four innings of scoreless relief while surrendering just one hit with a strikeout and a walk.  Senior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) surrendered five runs, one earned, in two innings of in the circle.

Sophomore Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.) went 2 for 4 in the opener, while freshman Tiffanie Marsh (Shrewsbury, Mass.), sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.), freshman Danielle Belliveau (Lakeville, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor McGrail (Worcester, Mass.) picked up single hits apiece.

In the nightcap, the Saints took the lead for good with a single run in the first and followed that up with two in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Senior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) was tagged with the loss in the circle going five innings and allowing seven runs, all earned, on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts.  Begin tossed an inning of scoreless relief to close the game for the Rams.

Freshman Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) led the Rams offense in game two with a triple, while Smith, Marsh, and junior Shelby Phillips (Taunton, Mass.) recorded single hits.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
