Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team suffered a pair of losses this afternoon at the Dot Richardson Spring Games. The Rams comeback effort fell short in a 6-4 setback against Carroll and the Rams were blanked 3-0 by Fredonia State.

Carroll jumped out to a 6-0 lead with two runs in the first and four in the second, but the Rams chipped away at the lead.  The Rams scored single runs in the fourth and fifth on an RBI double from freshman Casey Fanning (East Boston, Mass.) and an RBI fielder's choice by sophomore Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.).  The Rams added two more in the sixth on an illegal pitch with the bases loaded and an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of junior Shelby Phillips (Taunton, Mass.).  The Rams had runners on second and third, but relief pitcher Natalie Ruechel was able to induce a ground out and record a strikeout to end the threat. Ruechel then retired the Rams in order in the seventh to secure the victory.

Fredonia plated three runs in their first three at bats and that was all Kelsey Gannett would need as she went the distance to secure the victory.  Gannett held the Rams hitless while striking out seven and walking six.

The Rams close their spring trip with games against Macalester and William Patterson tomorrow afternoon.
