Softball Drops a Pair at Roger Williams

Bristol, R.I. – The Framingham State University softball team suffered a pair of setbacks this afternoon in non-conference action against Roger Williams University.  The Hawks defeated the Rams 7-3 in the opener before taking the second game by a score of 8-1.

With the pair of victories, Roger Williams improves to 20-18 on the year, while the Rams slip to 9-27 after the losses.

In the opener junior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) led the Rams at the dish going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while sophomore Tiffany Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) went 2-for-4.  Senior Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) each drove in runs.

Senior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) tossed a complete game in the opener but suffered the loss dropping her season mark to 6-13. Faria allowed seven runs, five earned, on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Rams took the lead in the top of the first inning when Ezold drew a bases loaded walk, but Roger Williams countered with three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

The Hawks added three more in the bottom of the third and a single run in the fourth to account for their seven runs.

The Rams threatened in the seventh with a pair of runs on RBI hits by Anthony and Begin, but it was not enough.

In the second game, juniors Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) and Kyle Fortin (Candia, NH) each went 2-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore Kelly Naegelin (Scituate, Mass.) drove in the Rams lone run in the game.

Freshman Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) picked up the game two loss going six innings and allowing eight runs, six earned, on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Rams close the regular season tomorrow when they host Bridgewater State in a MASCAC twinbill beginning at 1 p.m.
