Framingham, Mass. – Senior Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine) drove in four runs on the day as the Babson College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Framingham State University Rams this afternoon at Farley Field.

The Beavers won game one by a score of 6-2 before taking the second game 8-1 in what was the home opener for the Rams.

With the win, the Beavers improve to 15-8 on the year, while the Rams fall to 5-17.

Funk went 2-for-4 at the plate in the opener including a solo homerun and followed that up with a 1-for-2 performance in the nightcap that saw her draw a pair of walks and drive in a pair.  Freshman Caitie Benoit (Williamstown, Mass.) went 3-for-3 in the game one for Babson as she tripled and drove in two.  Funk and senior Jackie Enos (Taunton, Mass.) drove in two runs apiece in game two for the visitors.

Sophomore Tiffany Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) picked up a pair of hits for the Rams on the day, while senior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) and junior Molly McKinnon (Framingham, Mass.) each ripped RBI doubles for the Rams.

Babson plated four runs in their first at bat of the day to take the early lead.  Funk drove in one on an RBI single up the middle, while Benoit pushed across a pair with a triple to right center.

The Rams got one back in the bottom of the first on Faria's RBI double to left to cut the deficit to three.  Framingham tacked on another in the fourth to cut the lead down to two (4-2). Agostini legged out a triple to right and scored as the Beavers throw to third sailed out of play.

Babson added a run in the sixth when Kelly King (Kennebunk, Maine) scored on a pass ball and a run in the seventh on Funk's homer to reach the final score.

Senior Megan Brain (Pompton Plains, NJ) picked up the win for Babson going four innings and allowing two runs, both earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.  Junior Kathleen Conway (Simsbury, Conn.) tossed three innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit.

Faria was tagged with the loss for the Rams going the distance and surrendering six runs, five earned, on 12 hits with five strikeouts.

In game two, the Beavers scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, on a two-RBI double by Funk, and three in the fourth including a two-RBI triple by Enos, to break open a scoreless game.

The Rams plated an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth on McKinnon's RBI double, but that was as close as they would get as the Beavers added three more in their final at bat of the day.

Junior Tess Rubega (Norwich, Conn.) picked up the game two victory in the circle as she tossed a complete game.  Rubega surrendered just the one unearned run on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Freshman Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Rams as she went four innings giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits with a strikeout.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host UMass Boston in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m., while the Beavers travel to Clark University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
