Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team closed their spring trip at the NTC Games this morning with a pair of losses. The Rams were defeated 8-0 by Buffalo State in five innings and 10-4 by St. Catherine University.

Against Buffalo St., the Rams surrendered three runs in the top of the first inning, including a pair of unearned runs, as Buffalo took advantage of a Framingham State fielding error.

Buffalo added five more in the third on six hits including a pair of RBI doubles to account for all of the runs in the game.

The Rams offense was held to just four hits and had a runner picked off at third and caught at the plate trying to score on a pass ball in the game.  Freshman Taylor McGrail (Worcester, Mass.), junior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.), freshman Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) and junior Kyle Fortin (Candia, NH) all picked up singles in the game.

St. Catherine put up three unearned runs in the top of the first to stake themselves the early lead in game two, but the Rams answered with a pair of runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-3 advantage. In the second, freshmen Kourtney Kacian (Gardner, Mass.) and Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.) each drove in runs with RBI singles. In the third, Anthony plated two with an RBI double to center.

The Rams lead would prove to be short lived as St. Catherine scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning to take control of the game.  St. Catherine capitalized on seven Framingham State errors to scored seven unearned runs in the game.

Senior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) and junior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) led the Rams offense with two hits apiece.

The Rams return to action next week back in New England on Wednesday with a pair of games at Newbury College.
