Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team suffered a pair of setbacks today as they were defeated 6-0 by Wesleyan University and 3-0 by William Patterson after a lengthy rain delay at the NTC Games.

Junior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) suffered the loss in the circle against Wesleyan in her first start of the young season.  Begin went four innings and allowed five runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Wesleyan plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, but Begin settled in and did not surrender another run until the fifth inning.

The Rams were held to just two hits in the game as their offense is struggling out of the gate this season.  Junior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) doubled to left in the sixth and freshman Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) singled to left in the second to account for the Rams two hits in the game.

In the day's second game, William Patterson struck first in the second inning when a run scored on a wild pitch and added a pair in the third, including another run on a wild pitch, to extend their lead to 3-0.

Begin led the Rams offense in the game as she went 3-for-4 with three singles including a pair of infield hits, while classmate Kyle Fortin (Candia, NH) added a pair of hits.

Senior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) picked up the loss on the mound as she went seven innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits with five strikeouts.

The Rams return to action tomorrow morning at the NTC Games when they face Amherst College at 9 a.m. and Lawrence University at 11 a.m.
