Softball Closes Season with Pair of Wins over MCLA

North Adams, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team closed the 2012 season with a sweep of conference foe MCLA this afternoon in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader at the Joe Zavattaro Complex.  The Rams won the opener by a score of 3-0 and took the nightcap by a score of 11-3 in six innings.

The Rams end the 2012 season 17-21 overall and 6-8 in the conference, while the Trailblazers are 4-31 overall and 2-12 in the MASCAC with one non-conference game remaining.

Game one was a pitcher's duel as MCLA's Ainsley MacDonald ended up the losing pitcher surrendering just four hits and no earned runs as she went the distance.

Framingham scored all three runs in the fourth inning. Senior Sherren Doyle (Middleboro, Mass.) reached on an error leading off the inning and classmate Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) drove in a pair two batters later with a double. Shea was thrown out trying to stretch the hit in to a triple. Sophomore Molly McKinnon (Framingham, Mass.) would later get hit by a pitch with two outs and would come around to score on a series of wild pitches.

Junior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) was magnificent for the Rams allowing just two base runners. Koumjian was the lone Trailblazer to reach as she had the lone hit fand walked as well.  Koumjian broke up the no-hit bid with one out in the seventh.  Faria finished the game striking out 11 and walking just one as she improved her season record to 6-8.

Game two was the opposite as the teams combined for twenty-six hits and fourteen runs. The Trailblazers again were on the short end as the Trailblazers fell behind 3-0 in the first.

Shea led off with a single, followed by singles from Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) and Tiffany Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) loading the bases. They would all score in the inning as Faria reached on an error and sophomore Kate Corriveault (Blackstone, Mass.) stroked a two run double

MCLA would fall behind 4-0 before striking back in the bottom of the third. Koumjian was on second and Kendra Hobbs first when Angelica Perfido singled scoring Koumjian and sending Hobbs to third. Perfido would take second on the throw. Hobbs would then score on an RBI groundout by Sam Barbarotta and MCLA would tie it when Perfido scored on a passed ball.

The Rams answered with four in the fourth off the starter Pirzl to take control of the game.  Ezold plated a pair on a homer and senior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) scored another on an RBI single.

Framingham would tack on runs in the fifth and sixth to reach the final margin of 11-3.

Shea had four hits in game two and Ezold and Morrissette each had three. Morrissette also earned the victory going six innings and allowing three runs, zero earned, on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Pirzl took the loss for MCLA, while Hager was 1-2 in game two and Erin Kelley, Marissa Mendetta and Taylor Warnock all were 1-3 for the Trailblazers.
