Framingham, Mass. – The Westfield State University softball team received strong pitching performances from senior Madeline Tomich (Alford, Mass.) and sophomore Courtney Alcott (Groton, Mass.)  as they swept a double header this afternoon against Framingham State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Farley Field.  The Owls won both games in five innings by scores of 15-0 and 13-0.

With the wins the Owls improve to 4-2 in the MASCAC and 11-14 overall, while the Rams fall to 11-15 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

In game one, Tomich tossed a gem going the distance and allowing only two hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Tomich had a perfect game going into the fourth inning until senior Sherren Doyle (Middleboro, Mass.) singled to right breaking up both the perfect game and no hitter.

The Owls opened game two with five runs in the top of the first inning including a DiGirolamo three run homerun and a Dussault RBI single.

Single runs in the second, third and fourth extended the Owls lead to 8-0.  Senior Lisa Policelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored in the second on a wild pitch and Eichstaedt singled home DeGirolamo in the fourth.

The Owls tacked on five more in the top of the fifth to reach the final differential.  Four Framingham errors and five hits led to the five runs.  Eichstaedt drove in two runs in the frame on a single to left and sophomore Kelley Fluet (Worcester, Mass.) drove in another with a sacrifice fly.

Eichstaedt was 3-for-3 for the Owls in game two with three RBI and two runs scored, while DeGirolamo picked up a pair of hits and drove in three.  Freshman Vicki Hill (West Springfield, Mass.) also chipped in three hits and Alcott added two.
