Softball Drops Two at Rebel Spring Games

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games.  The Rams opened the day with a 7-1 loss to Otterbein and closed the day with a 7-3 setback against Washington College (MD).      

In the opener, Otterbein sophomore starting pitcher Kelsey Long tossed six scoreless innings holding the Rams to just two hits with five strikeouts to earn the victory and improve her season record to 2-0.

Otterbein took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Laura Basford led off with a homerun to left.  The Cardinals added three in the third to extend their lead to 4-0 as they capitalized on a Rams throwing error and received RBI singles from Erin Carpenter and Brooke Albright.  Three more runs in the sixth, two unearned, pushed the Cardinals lead to 7-0.

The Rams (3-5) added a single run in the bottom of the seventh to reach the final margin of 7-1.  Freshman Tiffany Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) reached on an Otterbein error and scored on another error on an overthrow from the Otterbein infield.

Junior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Rams as her season record fall to 1-2.  Faria tossed six innings allowing seven runs, three earned on nine hits with six strikeouts and five walks.  Sophomore Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) tossed one inning of scoreless relief surrendering just one hit with a walk.

In game two, Washington College scored two runs apiece in the first and second innings to secure the victory.  Sophomore Lauren Dockrill went 3-for-4 in the game with three RBI for Washington, while Brittany Walter, Sally Snover and Kelsey Graham picked up two hits apiece.

Senior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) picked up the loss as she went the distance allowing seven runs, all earned, on 13 hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Rams scored a single run in the third when sophomore Kyle Fortin (Candia, NH) led off with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch. 

Framingham scored a pair of runs in the fifth to cut the Washington lead to 6-3, but Washington College would add an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to reach the final margin of 7-3.

For the Rams Begin and senior Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) each picked up RBI in the game in the fifth inning with singles, while Fortin and Kate Corriveault (Blackstone, Mass.) each picked up hits in the game.

The Rams close out action tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games against squaring off against Wheaton College at 9 a.m. and Rutgers-Camden at 11 a.m.
