Four Rams Named to All-MASCAC Softball Teams

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team placed four players on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) 2011 All-Conference teams in voting conducted by the league's eight head coaches and announced by the conference office this morning.  Senior outfielder Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) is the Rams lone first team selection, while junior first baseman Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) and sophomores Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) and Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) earned second team honors.

DiTerlizzi earns her third all-MASCAC softball selection in her final year as a Ram as she led the team with a .348 batting average and nine doubles, two homeruns and 21 RBI.  DiTerlizzi, who was a first team selection in 2010 and a second team selection in 2009, broke the FSU career double record early this season and finishes her career with 37 doubles. DiTerlizzi, who was named MASCAC Player of the Week once this season, also ranks second all-time in RBI with 81 which is just one shy of the FSU career record.

Shea earns all-MASCAC honors for the second time in her career as she was a first team selection a year ago.  She was one of the Rams most consistent players this season hitting .287 with seven doubles, three triples and 10 RBI.  Shea made only three errors all season at first base and finished the year with a .987 fielding percentage.

Ezold, the Rams starting second baseman for the past two years, earns her first all-MASCAC accolades.  She led the Rams offensively for most of the season hitting .319 with a team-high 36 hits.  Ezold picked up seven doubles, two triples and a pair of homeruns.

Faria has been named to the second team in her first season as part of the Rams pitching staff.  In 17 appearances this season with 12 starts, Faria compiled an 8-6 record with a 2.14 ERA.  Opponents hit only .239 off Faria who averaged 5.9 strikeouts a game.  Faria established a new FSU single season strikeout mark as she became the first Ram to record 100 strikeouts in a single season.

The Rams finished the 2011 season 14-22 overall and 8-6 in the MASCAC which placed them in a three-way tie for third place.

Celebrating 40 years of Student-Athlete Excellence during the 2010-11 academic year, the MASCAC is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey.
