Softball Takes Two From Massachusetts Maritime

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) softball doubleheader with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy by scores of 19-2 and 14-1 this afternoon at Framingham's Farley Field.

The Rams even their conference record at 4-4 with the sweep and improve to 8-18 overall, while the Buccaneers fall to 1-17 overall and 0-8 in the MASCAC.

In game one the Rams scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back as sophomore Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) led the FSU offense going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and two RBI, while junior Katie Donovan (Holden, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a pair of triples and three RBI.

Kendra Fisher (Abington, Mass.), Sherren Doyle (Middleboro, Mass.) and Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) chipped in two hits apiece in game one.  Fisher, DiTerlizzi and freshmen Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) and Jaleisa Rookard (Cambridge, Mass.) contributed two RBI apiece in the game.

The Buccaneers were led by Jaclyn Labrecque (Sutton, Mass.), Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) and Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) who each picked up a base hit in the game. Thibeault scored the Bucs first run in the fourth inning as she stole home on the back end of a double steal and Beaulieu scored the other later in the inning on another attempt at a double steal.

Junior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) picked up the win in the circle for the Rams going 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits. Freshman Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

In game two, sophomore Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) recorded her sixth win of the season as she went 3.2 innings allowing one run on one hit with eight strikeouts and a walk.  Begin once again came on in relief tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and surrendering only one hit.

Mass. Maritime starting pitcher Beaulieu allowed only three earned runs in the game on seven hits but was hindered by five walks, three wild pitches and five fielding errors behind her.  The Rams capitalized on the five Buccaneer errors in game two to score six unearned runs in the first and five more unearned runs in the third to record the victory.

Sophomore Olivia D'Alessandro (Billerica, Mass.) led the Rams with three RBI in game two on a bases clearing double to center in the first.  Freshman Kate Corriveault (Blackstone, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs in the game on an RBI single in the second and an RBI groundout in the third.  DiTerlizzi drove in a pair of runs on a shot to left field that just scraped the fence and stayed in the park for her team leading sixth double of the season.

Freshman infielder Kyle Fortin (Candia, NH) reached base three times in the game and scored three runs, while Faria helped her own cause driving in a pair of runs in the game on an RBI single in the third.

Both teams resume conference action tomorrow as the Rams travel to Fitchburg State for a pair of games beginning at 2 p.m. and the Buccaneers host Westfield State in a pair beginning at 1 p.m.
