Softball Closes Florida Trip with 3-2 Win Over Endicott

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team closed their spring training trip in Florida this afternoon splitting a pair of games. The Rams lost the opener 9-0 to Anderson (IN) in five innings, before defeating New England opponent Endicott College 3-2.  The Rams return home with a 2-8 record at the 2011 Rebel Spring Games.

Endicott jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Jocelyn Russo led off the game with a single to left, advanced to second on a sacrifice and came around to score on an RBI single by Hayley Hovhanessian.

After the RBI single, Framingham State starting pitcher Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) would retire the next 10 batters in a row to keep it a one run game.

In the top of the fourth, the Gulls were able to add an insurance run to extend their lead to 2-0 as they capitalized on a pair of Rams fielding miscues.

The Rams rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.  Junior Chrisy Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice, senior Kelly Reardon (Groveland, Mass.) blooped a single to center and pinch hitter Jaleisa Rookard (Cambridge, Mass.) walked to load the bases with two outs.  Sophomore Kendra Fisher (Abington, Mass.) followed with a single to center that scored Ulak and Reardon knotting the score at 2-2.

After the Gulls failed to score in the top of the fifth, the Rams took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame.  Freshman Kyle Fortin (Candia, NH) led off the inning with a single and was for pinch runner Sherren Doyle (Middleboro, Mass.) who immediately stole second.  Doyle advance to third on a ground out and came around to score on an RBI groundout to short by first baseman Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.).

The Gulls threatened in the top of the sixth with a runner on third but Morrissette recorded the final out of the inning and retired the Gulls in order in the seventh to pick up her first victory of the season in the circle.  She tossed seven strong innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

In the Rams first game, Anderson scored nine runs in the first three innings to cruise to the 9-0 five inning win.  Framingham State starting pitcher Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was tagged with the loss as she went 2.2 innings allowing nine runs, five earned, on nine hits. Freshman Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) came on in relief surrendering a hit in her 1.1 innings of work.

The Rams lone hit was a single by DiTerlizzi to lead off the second inning as Monica Crowe tossed four scoreless innings surrendering the one hit to pick up the win in the circle.  Devin Moorman closed the game pitching an inning of scoreless relief for Anderson.

The Rams return to action on March 30th at UMass Boston with a doubleheader slated to begin at 3 p.m.
