Softball Falls to William Patterson 2-1 and to Rutgers-Camden in Extra Innings

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team lost two one run games this afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games falling to William Patterson 2-1 and to Rutgers-Camden 9-8 in eight innings.

The Rams (1-7) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against William Patterson after senior Kelly Reardon (Groveland, Mass.) doubled to left, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by classmate Kasey Phipps (Westford, Mass.) and came around to score on an RBI single to right by sophomore Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.).

Framingham State would maintain the one run advantage as junior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) held the Pioneers to just four hits and stranded the tying run on third base three times through the first six innings.

In the seventh William Patterson was finally able to push across the tying run and the go ahead run as they collected four hits in the frame and capitalized on a Rams fielding miscue.

WPU starting pitcher Michele Graham surrendered a double to junior Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) in the bottom of the seventh, but retired the next two batters to seal the 2-1 win.

Morrissette picked up the loss in the circle as she tossed seven strong innings for the Rams allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits with a strikeout and five walks, one intentional.

In game two, the Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and a two RBI single by Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.).

The Rams lead would prove to be short lived as Rutgers-Camden answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 advantage driving FSU starting pitcher Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) from the game.

In the top of the fifth inning the Rams pulled to within two runs at 6-4 on an RBI double from DiTerlizzi that plated Ezold who had singled to lead off the inning.

The Rams tied the game and pulled ahead, 8-6, in the sixth inning as they scored four runs on four hits including RBI basehits by Ezold and Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass.) and a two RBI single to left by Shea.

Faria retired Rutgers-Camden in order in the sixth, but in the seventh surrendered two runs, both unearned, as Camden capitalized on a pair of Rams fielding miscues.

In extra innings, the Rams could not advance the runner from second, and Rutgers-Camden was able to sacrifice their runner to third and plated the winning run on a sacrifice fly to center to end the game and pick up the 9-8 win.

Faria picked up the loss in the circle pitching 6.2 innings in relief allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Ezold and DiTerlizzi each picked up a pair of hits in the game, while Shea, Faria and DiTerlizzi each drove in two.

The Rams return to action tomorrow as they face Anderson (IN) at 1 p.m. and Endicott at 3 p.m.
