Centenary and Roger Williams Defeat Softball at Rebel Spring Games

Winter Haven, Fla.   – The Framingham State University softball team returned to action this morning at the Rebel Spring Games and was defeated by Centenary 2-0 and Roger Williams by a score of 3-1.

The Rams now 0-4 on the year were defeated by Centenary for the second straight day as they lost to the Cyclones 4-0 yesterday morning in their season opener.   

Senior Sarah Olsen pitched a gem for the Cyclones allowing no runs and surrendering only two hits in the game while retiring 14 batters in a row.  Olsen had a no hitter going until senior Kasey Phipps (Westford, Mass.) singled to left in the top sixth inning.

The Cyclones scored a single run in the second inning on Gabrielle Pellegrino's single to right that was misplayed allowing a run to score.  They added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Nicole Fleming.

Junior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) pitched six inning for the Rams surrendering two runs, one earned, on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

The second game was scoreless after three innings and Roger Williams took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double to left by Jaclyn Doolin.  The Hawks would add two insurance runs in the top of the six on a two RBI single by Laura McConnell that extended their lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the seventh Phipps reached on an infield hit and came around to score the Rams lone run on an RBI fielder's choice by junior Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass.).

Doolin pitched seven strong innings for the Hawks allowing one run on seven hits, while Yaya Faria (Action, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Rams going five innings and surrendering one run on three hits.  Freshman Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) pitched two innings in relief allowing two unearned runs on two hits.

The Rams return to action tomorrow as they face McDaniel at 3 p.m. and Nazareth at 5 p.m.
