Softball Drops Two on Day One of Rebel Spring Games

Winter Haven, Fla.   – The Framingham State University softball team opened the 2011 season this morning with two losses at the Rebel Spring Games.  The Rams lost their season opener 4-0 to Centenary (NJ) and dropped the nightcap 13-5 to Farmingdale.

In game two, Farmingdale scored two unearned runs in the first and added five more in the second with the big blow coming on a bases clearing triple by Nicole Farber to take a 7-0 lead.

The FSU Rams battled back with a run in the bottom of the second as senior Kelly Reardon (Groveland, Mass.) squeezed home Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.), but Farmingdale answered with two runs in the bottom of the third.

Framingham State continued to chip away at Farmingdale's lead with three more in the bottom of the third on RBI doubles by Ezold and DiTerlizzi and an RBI groundout by Faria.

The Farmingdale Rams added three more in the fourth and a single run in the sixth to pick up the win.  Heather Buckshaw picked up the win going six innings allowing five earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and four walks.  Farber finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBI, while Madison Snyder went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Junior Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) picked up the loss going 1.2 innings allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.  DiTerlizzi pitched 4.1 innings of relief surrendering six runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
