Framingham, Mass. — Sophomore Katelynn Fanning (East Boston, Mass.) threw a complete game shut out to lead the Salem State College softball team to a 9-0 win today of the Framingham State Rams.  The game was the second game of a doubleheader from Tuesday that was postponed due to the weather.  With the win, the Vikings improve to 9-3 in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and 27-7-1 overall, while the Rams fall to 13-19 overall and 7-5 in the MASCAC.

Fanning, who picked up the win in game one against the Rams on Tuesday, pitched seven scoreless innings surrendering only five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.  The Rams had runners on second and third with less than two outs on three occasions and Fanning was able to work out of all three jams.

The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the first inning as they capitalized on two Ram errors. The Rams finished the game with five errors that led to three unearned runs.  The Vikings added three more in the top of the sixth and three in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin.

Christina Cipriani (Peabody, Mass.)  doubled and drove in two runs, while Jess Baird (Worcester, Mass.) and Michelle Grifoni (Peabody, Mass.) each drove in single runs.

Kelly Reardon (Groveland, Mass.) and Kasey Phipps (Westford, Mass.) picked up two hits apiece for the Rams out of the eight and nine spots, while Katie Donovan (Holden, Mass.) added a single hit.

Both team close out their MASCAC schedule on Saturday with doubleheaders as the Rams host Fitchburg State and Salem hosts MCLA with both beginning at 1 p.m.
