Game 2 Box Score

Framingham, Mass. — Sophomore Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) allowed three runs in seven innings as the Framingham State College softball team won game two and earned a split of a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) softball doubleheader with Bridgewater State today at Farley Field.  The Bears won the first game 2-1.  With the split, the Rams are now 3-1 in the MASCAC and 7-13 overall, while the Bears are now 2-2 in conference and 9-13 overall.

Freshman Meghan Dunn (Colchester, Mass.) picked up the win in game one and improves her record to 5-4 on the season.  She held the Rams to just one run on four hits as she walked three and struck out three in seven innings of work.

The Bears took the lead in the top of the second inning as they took advantage of a fielding miscue by the Rams.  Sophomore Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.)  led off the inning with a single to left and in a bizarre play was caught in a pickle attempting to steal second and was advanced to third on a throwing error by the Rams.  Junior Casey Hill (Randolph, Mass.) singled home McDermott and then came around to score on an RBI double by Michaela Ferreira (Fall River, Mass.) giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.

The Rams cut the Bears lead in half in the bottom of the third as Kelsey Power (Hollidaysburg, PA) led off the inning with a walk.  Junior Kelly Reardon (Groveland, Mass.) pinch ran for Power and came around to score the Rams lone run on an RBI double to right by junior Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.).  That was as close as the Rams would come in game one as Dunn held the Rams to just two hits over the final four innings.

DiTerlizzi was tagged with the loss that evens her record at 5-5 on the year as she went seven innings allowing two unearned runs on eight hits with four strike outs.

Ferreira was 3-for-3 in game one for the Bears with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Hill went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

In the second game, the Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as McDermott led off the game with a single and came around to score on an RBI hit from senior Lauren Cucinotta (Franklin, Mass.).  After a Meghan Noyes (Stoughton, Mass.) single, Morrissette settled in and was able to get out of the first inning jam.

In the bottom of the inning, the Rams tied the score at 1-1. Freshman Kendra Fisher (Abington, Mass.) hit a blooper to right the landed just inside the foul line and advanced to second on a ground out.  Sophomore catcher Katie Donovan (Holden, Mass.) drove Fisher home with an RBI single up the middle off BSC starting pitcher Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, Mass.).

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the fourth inning when the Rams offense put four runs on the board.  Sophomore Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) doubled down the leftfield line driving Ducinski out of the game.  Freshman Taylor Ezold’s (Westfield, Mass.) greeted the Bears new pitcher, Tracey Sanko (Windsor, Conn.), with an RBI double to center.  Senior Megan Dumas (Holden, Mass.) singled to right and Reardon followed with an RBI single giving the Rams a 3-1 lead.  With runners on first and third, Reardon and Dumas executed a double steal to score the Rams fourth run.  Fisher drove in the Rams final run of the inning as she reached on a fielder’s choice and Reardon came around to score on the play.

The Bears answered with a single run in the top of the fifth off Morrissette to cut the Rams lead to 5-2.  With two outs, McDermott singled through the right side, advanced to second an infield single by Sanko and came around to score on a RBI single through the left side by Cucinotta.

Ducinski re-entered the game in the bottom of the fifth and the Rams scored three more runs to open up an 8-2 lead.  Donovan and Shea led off the inning with back-to-back walks and advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt from Ezold.  Donovan scampered home with the Rams sixth run on a perfectly executed squeeze play by Dumas.  Junior Kasey Phipps (Westford, Mass.) followed with a two out two RBI single to center for the Rams seventh and eighth runs.

The Bears were able to push across an unearned run in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-3 and had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh.  Morrissette was able to get out of the jam as Noyes flew out to right and the runner on second left early ending the game.

Morrissette improves to 2-7 on the season as she picked up the win going seven innings allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits with two strike outs and no walks.  Dumas went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Phipps went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Ducinski picked up the loss for the Bears allowing five runs (all earned) on five hits with four walks and three strike outs in five innings of work.  Cucinotta went 4-for-4 with two RBI in game two, while McDermott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Bears.
