Game 2 Box Score

North Dartmouth, Mass. - Sophomore catcher Hannah Rounds (Lincoln, RI) slammed a two-run homer to  left center field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s softball team a 4-3 victory over visiting Framingham State in the first game of their non-conference doubleheader at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday. The Rams won the nightcap, 7-3.

Rounds hit a pitch from junior Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) over the fence to drive in junior center fielder Michelle Conway (Burrillville, RI) ahead of her and erase a 3-2 Framingham State lead.

The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, scoring two unearned runs on an error by Corsair pitcher Brittany Eldridge (So. Raynham, Mass.). UMass Dartmouth tied it in their half of the fifth on Rounds’ two-run single. DiTerlizzi doubled home the go-ahead run for the Rams in the seventh, setting the stage for Rounds’ clutch hit. Eldridge went all the way for the win, improving to 2-2, while DiTerlizzi took the loss and fell to 4-4.

Freshman right fielder Kendra Fisher (Abington, Mass.) and sophomore shortstop Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass.) drove in runs with first-inning hits in the second game, as FSC scored five runs and took an early lead.

Rounds, senior third baseman Emily Surprenant (Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman first baseman Samantha Howarth (Seekonk, Mass.) had run-scoring hits for UMD in the first as they cut the lead to 5-3, but DiTerlizzi held them scoreless the rest of the way.

Fisher doubled in a run for the Rams in the second, and DiTerlizzi homered in the fourth. DiTerlizzi earned the win and improved to 5-4. Corsair senior starter Alyssa Hosford (Attleboro, Mass.) took the loss and dropped to 2-4.

UMass Dartmouth is now 5-9, while Framingham State is now 6-10. The Corsairs will return to action when they host UMass Boston Saturday, while the Rams will visit Wellesley College on Wednesday.
