Softball Defeats Utica 2-1 and Falls to Hendrix 8-0 at Rebel Spring Games

Kissimmee, Fla. — The Framingham State College softball team split two games on its second day at the Rebel Spring Games, holding off Utica for a 2-1 win in its first game and falling to Hendrix 8-0 in five innings in its second.   The Rams are now 2-2 on the season having split two games yesterday as well and return to action tomorrow with two more games as they square off with Kean at 9 a.m. and face Ashford at 1 p.m.

Junior Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) started game one for the Rams and went five innings allowing one unearned run on five hits with a strike out before giving way to sophomore Alysia Morrrissette (Ware, Mass.) who pitched two innings of scoreless relief to pick up her first save of the season.

The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and that was all they would need for the win.  Sophomore catcher Katie Donovan (Holden, Mass.) led off with a double and Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) was hit by a pitch giving the Rams first and second with no outs.  Freshman Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) sacrificed Donovan and Shea to second and third and Megan Dumas (Holden, Mass.) singled to center driving in Donovan for the game’s first run.  Two batters later sophomore Kasey Phipps (Westford, Mass.) singled to center driving in Shea with what proved to be the game winning run.

Utica scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning, but Morrissette held the Pioneers off the scoreboard in the final two innings to preserve the win.

In game two, Hendrix held the Rams to just one hit, a single from DiTerlizzi to lead off the game, in five innings and capitalized on four Ram fielding miscues which led to four unearned runs en route to the 8-0 win.
