Softball Splits Two at Rebel Spring Games

Kissimmee, Fla. — The Framingham State College softball team split two games on its first day at the Rebel Spring Games, defeating Nichols College 7-3 in its first game and falling to Hood 2-1 in its second.   The Rams are now 1-1 on the young season and return to action tomorrow with two more games as they face Utica at 1 p.m. and Hendrix at 5 p.m.

Junior pitcher Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) started the first game for the Rams and went the distance striking out eight en route to her first complete game win of the season.  DiTerlizzi allowed only one hit and surrendered three unearned runs as the Rams committed five errors.

Senior centerfielder Megan Dumas (Holden, Mass.) led the Rams offense as she went 3-for-3 in the game with two RBI.  Sophomores Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, Mass.) were each 2-for-3 from the plate in the game.

In game two, neither team generated much offense until late in the game.  Hood took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning on an RBI single to left center by Jordan Wolford.

The Rams responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1 going to the seventh.  Freshman outfielder Kendra Fisher (Billerica, Mass.) belted a two out triple down the right field line and eventually came around to score on an RBI single from Ulak.

Hood College pushed an unearned run across in the top of the seven and the Rams went down in order in the bottom of the inning to reach the final margin of 2-1.

Alysia Morrissette (Ware, Mass.) went the distance and picked up the loss on the mound for the Rams as she allowed two runs (one earned).  Morrissette scattered six hits and struck out six while walking none.
