Softball Takes Two From Lesley
CAMBRIDGE, MA - In the final two games of the regular season
before the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships
begin, the Lynx were defeated by Massachusetts State College
Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent Framingham state in both
games of an afternoon double header today. The Rams took game
one by a score of 5-2 and won the second 12-4.
Framingham State took game 5-2 with the help of three early runs in
the top of the first inning. After back-to-back singles to
start the inning by Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, MA) and Colleen Clancy
(Lynn, MA), outfielder Alyssa Shea (Lakeville, MA) doubled to left
field to drive home the game's first run. Clancy later
scored on an error and an infield single by Liz Ranton (Milton, MA)
brought in the third run of the frame.
In the top of the third, the Rams would add another run with two
outs after a Katelyn Pacheco (Acushnet, MA) single to right field
was misplayed to bring home Framingham State's fourth run of the
game.
Lesley got a run back in the bottom half of the third on a Jodi
Fralick (Woburn, MA) single to left centerfield to bring in
shortstop Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA).
The Lynx would trim another run off the lead two innings later, but
it was the last run they scored in game one. Another tally by
Framingham State in the top of the seventh gave the Rams a
three-run lead that they would not relinquish.
Earning the victory for the Rams was Pacheco who went 5.0 innings,
giving up just two earned runs on four hits while striking out
six. Lesley's Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, FL) went the
distance as the senior struck out eight batters in the loss.
The offense for the Rams came alive in the second game with 12 runs
on 16 hits as a team. Causing much of the damage for
Framingham State was centerfielder Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury,
MA) who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored hitting out
of the three spot. DiTerlizzi cleared the bases in a six-run
fifth inning for the Rams with a triple to right center.
On the mound, Alysia Morrissette (Ware, MA) pitched a complete
game, giving up three earned runs on eight hits and three walks
while striking out three.
Offensively for the Lynx, Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) led the team
with two RBI and finished the game going 2-for-4 with a run
scored. Fralick added another RBI in game two as the junior
went 2-for-3.
Lesley now enters the NECC Championships on Friday with a 23-12
record and the number one seed. They will play Daniel Webster
College on Friday morning at 10 a.m. on the campus of
UMass-Boston.
Framingham State improves to 13-25 with their sweep this
afternoon. The number three seed Rams will play second seed
Bridgewater State in the MASCAC playoffs on Thursday, April 30
starting at 3:30 p.m.
