Softball Splits Two With MCLA

Framingham, MA - Senior pitcher Katelyn Pachecho (Acuhnet, MA) scattered five hits over seven innings as the Framingham State College softball team picked up their first win of the season today 3-0 in game one of a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) double header with the MCLA Trailblazers.  The Trailblazers picked up the win in game two 9-6 as senior Rachel Desautels (Readsboro, VT) went 3-for-4 with three doubles and five RBIs.  With the split the Rams are now 1-1 in the MASCAC and 1-15 overall, while the Trailblazers are also 1-1 in conference and 2-10 overall.

Pacheco hurled a gem in game one to pick up her first win of the season on the mound as she went seven innings allow no runs and scattering five hits while striking out seven.

The Rams broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 5th inning as senior first baseman Liz Ranton (Milton, MA) led off the inning with a single, advanced to third on a double by senior Colleen Clancy (Lynn, MA) and scored on shallow sacrifice fly to right off the bat of freshman shortstop Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, MA).  That was all the rams would need as Pacheco kept the Trailblazers at bay, but the Rams would add two insurance runs on an MCLA error and an RBI single from Ranton in the bottom of the sixth.

The Rams answered with two runs in the first to cut the Trailblazers lead to 4-2.  The Trailblazers responded with three more runs in the third to put the game out of reach.  Desautels belted her second RBI double of the day and sophomore infielder Jacklyn Candelet (Pittsfield, MA) drove in two with an RBI single.

Freshman pitcher Hadley Ameen came on in relief in the second inning of game two and allowed four runs, three earned on eight hits while striking out four to pick up the win.
