Softball Sweeps Conference Doubleheader at Worcester State

Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College softball team's season came to an end Saturday afternoon as they dropped a pair of MASCAC games to the visiting Rams of Framingham State College by the final scores of 13-2 and 6-2.  The team finishes with a 9-23 overall record and a 3-11 MASCAC total.  Framingham State improves to 16-21 and 8-6 in the MASCAC and with the wins nailed down a spot in the upcoming MASCAC playoffs.

In game one, the Lancers led, 1-0 after three, but the visitors scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, a pair in the sixth before opening the floodgates in the seventh putting up nine runs.  The defense proved to be the culprit as only three of the runs were earned on the day.  Framingham did knock out 12 hits to the Lancers' six in game one.

Framingham was paced offensively by designated player Sara Mulkeen (Wrentham, MA) who went 3-for-4 on the day.  Colleen Clancy (Lynn, MA), Katelyn Pacheco (Acushnet, MA) and Megan Dumas (Holden, MA) all had two hit games while Clancy, Mulkeen, Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, MA) and catcher Rachel Timmons (Malden, MA) all had multiple RBI in the front end of the twin bill.

Pacheco picked up her her 5th win of the season for the visitors while junior Jessalyn Hyland (Swansea, MA) suffered the loss.

In game two it was a tighter affair.  The two teams traded two runs in the first inning before Framingham State scored the decisive run in the top of the second inning.  DeTerlizzi had the big blow in the inning as she plated Kelsey Curley (Wilbraham, MA) and Clancy with a single.  The Rams would go on to add another run in the top of the fourth for the, 6-2, final.

Pacheco, Timmons and Curley all had multiple hits in game two for the Rams.  Worcester State catcher Ashley Nye (Marion, MA) led the Lancer offensive attack with a pair of hits.

Kelly Knox (Framingham, MA) notched her 11th win of the year for Framingham State while Catherine Costopoulos (Tyngsboro, MA) falls to 3-6 with the defeat.

Framingham State now awaits their first round MASCAC opponent.
