Softball Splits with Westfield State

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College softball team split a doubleheader at home today against Westfield State, winning the first game 6-2 and losing the nightcap 7-4.  The Rams, 13-20 overall, move to 6-6 in the MASCAC and are still in the hunt for a spot in the post season tournament, while the Owls move to 20-10 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

Junior Katelyn Pacheco (New Bedford, MA) picked up her second straight win in as many starts this weekend as she went seven innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three.  Junior Chelsea Sylvia (South Dartmouth, MA) picked up the loss as she went six innings allowing six earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

Junior Colleen Clancy (Lynn, MA) paced the Rams offense in the opening game as she was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs.  Sophomore Kelsey Curley (Wilbraham, MA) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Rams.

In game two, the Rams scored four runs in the first inning but were not able to hold onto the lead as their defense committed five errors and the Owls scored six unearned runs to come from behind and win the second game 7-4.  Senior Kelly Knox (Framingham, MA) went the distance for the Rams and picked up the loss despite giving up one earned run and six hits on the day.  Junior Casey Riddell (Athol, MA) picked up the win for the Owls as she settled in after the Rams scored four runs in the first and held them scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Freshman shortstop Alicia Gardner (Athol, MA) paced the Owls offense with two hits and four RBIs, while junior first baseman Katie Gorman (Feeding Hills, MA) also had two hits and drove in a run.  For the Rams, Clancy was 2-for-4 with a run scored in the second game.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they host Brandeis University at 2:30 p.m.
