Softball Splits Two with Plymouth State

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College softball team split a doubleheader at home today against Plymouth State University, losing the first game 1-0 and winning the nightcap 5-4.  The Rams improve to 10-19 on the season, while the Panthers move to 17-7.

The Panthers scored an unearned run in the first inning of game one as sophomore Kay LaBrie (Somersworth, NH) doubled to left, advance to third on a ground out and scored the only run of the game on a pass ball.  LaBrie finished the game 3 for 3 with a double.

Sophomore Kat Roland (Norton, MA) went the distance for the Panthers allowing only four Ram hits on the day while striking out 12.  Junior Katelyn Pacheco (New Bedford, MA) was outstanding on the hill for the Rams despite picking up the loss.  Pacheco allowed one unearned run while striking out 10.

In game two, the Rams scored three runs in the first to take the lead for good.  After the Panthers cut the Rams lead to one with two runs in the fourth inning, the Rams responded with two runs of their own to push the lead back to 5-2.  The Panthers would score single runs in the fifth and seventh, but senior Kelly Knox (Framingham, MA) got key outs when she needed them.  Knox went seven innings allowing three earned runs and striking out five.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a noon start, while the Panthers host Rhode Island College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
